Here are two easy ways to lower you latency and increase your FPS:
The following will lower you latency:
Download and Install the following registry fix:
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/i … cyFix.html
How It Works:
Wow uses the TCP protocol which requires that network segments sent to your computer be acknowledged in order to provide a reliable connection.
Windows bundles these acknowledgements together and sends them in pairs. While this is an efficient way of dealing with them generally, the inevitable delays caused by the bundling process increase latency considerably.
This is because when Windows queues up an acknowledgement in order to bundle it with the following one, the game server has to wait for the acknowledgement timer to expire before sending new data.
Leatrix Latency Fix removes the acknowledgement bundling process so that an acknowledgement is sent immediately for every segment that's received. This produces a significant reduction in latency as there is no longer a delay before new data is sent to your computer.
In a normal networking environment, you would prioritise network efficiency over latency and use the Windows defaults, but in Wow the opposite is true and you want the lowest latency you can possibly get.
The following will increase your FPS:
Download and run the following program:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Game_Booster_d5952.html
How it Works:
Designed to help optimize your PC for smoother, more responsive game play in the latest PC games with the touch of a button, Game Booster helps achieve the performance edge previously only available to highly technical enthusiasts. It works by defragmenting game directories, temporarily shutting down background processes, cleaning RAM, and intensifying processor performance. That means you can keep all the features of Microsoft® Windows® 7,Vista™ and XP® ready for when you need them, but turn them off when you are ready to get down to serious business – gaming. Game Booster makes it simpler to enjoy the latest games and take your experience to a new level. All systems go!
Launch the program and click the button that says gaming mode. To return back to normal mode just hit the button that says "Back to Normal Mode".

does this shit work, or is my computer going to explode?

They both work very well. If your computer explodes it will not be because of these these registry hacks / programs.
It might be all that porn you are downloading though...

Hmm, been a month and Nath hasn't been hacked yet ... that we know of. I'm considering giving this a go.
Any other new events happen in your life Nath? Credit Card numbers get stolen and used? More spam in your email? Thugs standing outside your car when you get off work? Your herpes med prices go up? Anything?

Other than the gonnasyphaherpaids I picked up last night from that squirrel in Dalaran I have been good.
Thank you for asking.
*In all seriousness though guys, I have been using both of these "mods" if you want to call them that since I made this post and I have yet to see any adverse effects. The ONLY "issue" I have noted is when you use the gamebooster it prevents you from streaming music to other devices (such as my ps3) because it turns off Media Center. That being said, it considers that a useless background process and turns it off intentionally, so that is understandable.

I have used the registry fix (maybe not this exact one, but a similar one I guess) and it made a huge difference for me. Went from around 300+ ping down to about 195 ms. Also have had no adverse effects from it.

The TCP change will likely net you slightly lower latency at a cost of maximum down/upload speed. For a gamer, I can see this being an acceptable tradeoff. Just understand that you cannot cheat the speed of light, or hardware processing times. The signal has to stumble it's way through the tubes and routers and big trucks that make up the internet. East coast to LA is about 100ms on a good day. Once it hits blizzard, you're looking at another 50ms minimum before it hits the server. Just the nature of the beast here, so don't expect to suddenly have zero latency. There will always be lag. Always.
[edit]Redacted- The second thing is legit, and appears to work, but does nothing someone familiar with the concept cannot do themselves.
If you're looking to system optimize, I can help-- but there's no one single trick to getting dramatic performance increases. In fact, most tweaks aren't dramatic at all. A few frames per second or marginally faster loading ingame. But there are some relatively simple, fast, and easy steps you can take that can yield dramatic performance boosts. Here, a freebie. Spybot Search and Destroy is free, effective, simple, and can return massive (25-50%) performance increases on severely compromised systems with only an hour or so invested.

Since you clearly haven't run the GameBooster Sem, it does tell you exactly what it's turning off when you run it. I didn't even notice the part where it said "and intensifying processor performance" and I have no idea what that means, but I wouldn't call the whole thing a scam. One of the most common optimizations you can do to a Windows system is turn off all the useless services Windows has on by default and that's basically what this thing does without making you go through the services manager and try and decide what you need and what you don't.

I can vouch that leatrix works to significantly lower latency if u have that problem, I was normally between 160-250ms and downloaded and installed leatrixlatencyfix after seeing it in an EJ UI thread.... and now my latency is between 50-60ms

I rather do it manually than install software. here's the ej thread: http://elitistjerks.com/blogs/cadfael/3 … cting.html

Id like to say this script completely fixed my random disconnect issues since last tuesdays patch.
After last weeks patch I was receiving an unusual amount of disconnects, almost always at the beginning of an instance or right before or during a boss pull. I just kept passing the blame to my new ISP, Comcast.
Some random pug I was tanking in recommended this script to clean up packet loss etc between my game and the wow server. I must not have taken Nath's orignal post into consideration, but found out its the same fix!
I'm not totally saying this script was a miracle, but I have not disconnected since and its been about 3 days now. Maybe it will help someone out who had the same issues with random, quick d/c, yet low latency. If you're not having random disconnects, well good for you, you dont need this.

Is this the same thing that the programs above do? Since coming back to WoW, I've been having increased connectivity issues and it's pissing me off. I followed the EJ instructions in Step #2. I'm considering running these programs as well, but can someone tell me if that would be redundant with what I've already done?

Offline
Step 2 on the EJ thread is the same thing as the first program that is linked. The second program is different in that it shuts down a lot of the services that are running on your computer that WoW doesn't need.

A+++++++
I was never below about 120ms, and now I'm almost always below 20ms. It's like playing a new game.
